Penta Windmiller Architecture, PC is an AIA award winning architectural firm with offices in East Hampton and NYC. The projects range from single-family homes and renovations to corporate headquarters, most recently specializing in real estate advising and consulting both for businesses and for individuals. The most recent award received was for the headquarters of a Fortune 500 company at the Bank of America building on Wall Street.
Jifat Windmiller is president of Penta Windmiller Architecture, PC (PWA). She came to the east end to spend a summer vacation 3 years ago and has been unable to leave ever since. "I'll be in a big hurray rushing off somewhere and driving too fast, when I'll turn a corner and gasp at the site of a clump of trees, or a vista, or just the shape of the land, and I remember where I am and slow down again. This place is pure magic and I feel lucky every day that I'm here." She's been a practicing architect since 1985 and started her own firm in 1988.
In October of 2004, Ms. Windmiller was selected as one of 15 architects from the US, along with another 15 architects from across Europe, to attend a special symposium held throughout Northern Italy on the use of natural stone in all types of applications. The trip was sponsored by The Consultants International Group and the Italian Chamber of Commerce. "It was a tremendous honor and delight for all the senses to be invited to this world class event."
Terry D Van Dyne and Jifat Windmiller were introduced to each other during the mid 80's while both were working for various architectural firms in Chicago. Since the late 80's they've been both colleagues and friends. Mr. Van Dyne has made valuable contributions to all of PWA's most important projects, including the barn.
PWA's first project in the east end was in 1993, turning a small 450 SF house in Georgica into a (then considered large) 3000 square foot work of art, whereby the exterior of the old house remained intact as a portion of a dramatic new interior corridor, where the old and new merged.
Upon walking into the barn for the first time, Ms. Windmiller knew immediately what this house needed to be, and was more eager to work on this than anything she'd done in years. See and judge for yourself the result of this work of pure passion.
